STEPPING STONES
Leicestershire
This project recently carried out brought a 1932 property not only up to present day but into the future with the latest home automation system.
The project started by taking the roof off, knocking down the garage and stripping the house back to the bare brickwork. Working with our architect, interior designer, lighting designer and home automation designer, we designed a 5-bedroom property with all the latest technology installed. We added an extra floor making it 3 storey and built extensions on the side and rear.
Consisted of a Penthouse, En suite and dressing room.
French doors were fitted with a glass balustrade looking out over the garden. 4 Velux windows were also fitted to give more light into the rooms. Bespoke bedroom furniture was fitted and also into the dressing room
Consisted of a family bathroom, 4 bedrooms, 2 en suites and a store cupboard
3 of the bedrooms with bespoke wardrobes and furniture. A large landing area to give the feeling of space and a curved feature wall to take some of the square edges off and make the space look more interesting
Consisted of a kitchen dining room, utility room, plant room, gym, snug, media room, w.c and hallway
The kitchen/dining room looks out onto the garden through a set of 7 metre bifold doors and to let more light in, 3 Velux windows were fitted.
The kitchen was fitted with a large island with stools for 4 people, twin sinks, 3 ovens, induction hob, a built in coffee machine and Quooker boiling water tap
We constructed a bespoke dropped ceiling to replicate the shape of the island below it
The dining area was set of with a split slate feature wall
The lighting design was used to change from the normal centre light or straight rows of downlights to positioning in the rooms to highlight features including downlights over doors for example.
All the lighting was run from 2 lighting racks set next to the home automation rack
Led lighting was used in the kitchen under cupboards and the worktop.
Colour change Led was used around the drop ceiling and around the feature ceiling plinth in the media room
Directional downlights were used in certain areas to create arcs of light over walls and over the worktops
Feature lights were used to light the front of the house and highlight areas in the garden
Control 4 is the system used for the home automation on this project
All the home automation system was run from the rack placed in the ground floor hallway
A main control panel was fixed to the wall in the kitchen with a walkaround panel like an iPad was placed in the penthouse. Everything can also be worked from an App on mobile phones. The 2 control panels also act as an intercom system between the ground and 2nd floor
The security camera system is run through it and can be viewed on any television, the control pads or on mobile phones
The system works the electric Velux windows and blinds
The vertical blinds on the bifold doors are run through it
All lighting and lighting moods. For example, a dining mood can be set where when chosen dims the kitchen lights and brings on low lighting to the feature wall and over the table pendant light. Cooking mood can be set where the over the worktop lights are brought on and the under-cabinet lights
The system controls all the heating including underfloor heating on the ground floor
The smoke alarms are linked through it and the mobile phones so if smoke is detected it alerts the owner wherever they are in the world and tells them which room the fire is in
It controls the burglar alarm which also tells the owner on their phone which room an intruder is in
The doorbell is controlled through it and informs the owner on their phone or television that someone is at the door and they can then see and talk to them from anywhere in the world
It controls all media in the house so televisions can be turned on through the control panels or phones including the television in the family bathroom
All music is controlled through it from Spotify and can be played in any room with speakers in the ceiling of every room including the bathroom and en suites. The music can be played independently or in party mode where the same music is played through every speaker throughout the house
